Title: Real-time Analytics: Why is it different, or is it?
The internet of things and industrial internet concepts rely on massive volumes of data streaming from sources such as sensors, digital media, and other measuring devices. For the most part, data is processed in real-time and basic analyses performed – generally in the form of alerts based on business logic. The evolution of big data analytics suggests profound new opportunities for industries such as Manufacturing, Transportation, Healthcare and others to drive decisions (without human interaction). Using projects with three diverse firms, we provide key learning and challenges on the effective use of data analytics in the Industrial Internet. In particular, we point out key aspects of real-time analytics.
